 This scrapbook theme captures the simple joy of kids exploring the garden. The highlight, of course, is always playing with the garden hose—it usually ends in a water fight.

 I designed the theme with a worn, vintage look and a touch of steampunk, as you often see in my work. I love these beautiful sunflowers from DA, Focus on bright, natural colors like green and yellow. 

In the end, this scrapbook layout isn’t just about gardening—it’s about curiosity, creativity, and connection. It’s about those carefree moments when time slows down, and a simple splash of water can turn into pure happiness.

From a Construction Mistake to a Magical Halloween Dream House

 Sometimes the best creations start with a mistake…

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

Als ich dieses kleine Haus aus einem Bastelset fertig gebaut hatte, sah ich das die Dachschrägen nicht passten. Klassische Fehlkonstruktion!

Aber anstatt es zu entsorgen, war es eine Herausforderung.

Mit etwas Farbe, Alterungseffekten, geheimnisvollen Details, mit den passenden chipboards ergänzt und einer großen Portion Halloween-Magie 🎃 verwandelte sich das kleine Haus schließlich komplett in ein Traumhaus lol. 

Das Dach ist kein Fehler mehr, im Gegenteil es verleiht Charakter.

Und genau das liebe ich an kreativen Projekten:

Man muss einen Fehler nicht immer korrigieren. Manchmal muss man ihn einfach in Magie verwandeln.

DIY Mixed Media Home Decor - Where is my ship??

 

If you love creating textured mixed media projects, this one is full of inspiration! 

I transformed an oval wall décor piece into a weathered pirate-themed artwork using chipboards, rich rust effects, and a subtle touch of steampunk.

By layering texture pastes, metallic paints, and rusty patinas, I created an aged, dark vintage look. The dimensional chipboard embellishments add depth and tell their own story, while the combination of industrial details and nautical elements gives the project a unique character.

Mixed media is all about experimenting, combining different materials, and letting creativity lead the way. Don't be afraid to embrace texture, imperfections, and rusty finishes—they often create the most beautiful effects.

Mixed Media Inspiration Circle - Contrast

 

This circle inspired me to create a Yin-Yang project. I chose the contrasts of colorful and monochrome.

 Yin Yang is an ancient symbol from Chinese philosophy that represents balance and harmony between opposite yet interconnected forces. Yin is associated with calmness, darkness, and reflection, while Yang symbolizes energy, light, and action. Together, they remind us that opposites are not in conflict but work together to create balance in life and nature.

The Forgotten Amphora # MDF Base

 

MDF Cauldron - Sunken Amphora

Sometimes a craft project develops a life of its own — and that’s exactly what happened with this mixed media piece. What originally started as an MDF cauldron base slowly transformed into something entirely different: a mysterious sunken amphora resting on the ocean floor of Atlantis.

The beauty of mixed media art is that there are no strict rules. Layers, textures, colors, and found elements begin to tell their own story while you create. And this project became a perfect example of intuitive crafting.

Instead of a mystical potion scene, the artwork evolved into an underwater fantasy filled with:

• coral structures
• oxidized metal details
• tiny fish
• seaweed textures
• aged stone surfaces

The result feels like a forgotten treasure hidden beneath the sea for centuries.

 

 

Creating Texture and Depth

One of my favorite parts of mixed media is building texture. For this project I worked with several layers to create the illusion of erosion, saltwater, and ancient surfaces.

I combined: chipboards related to the underwater topic

• texture paste
• acrylic paints
• rust and patina effects
• metallic waxes
• gauze and mini pearls

The soft coral and sandy tones mixed with turquoise patina create a beautiful underwater atmosphere. The rusty gears and metallic elements add an industrial touch, almost like remnants of Atlantis technology lost in time.

The Underwater Details

The tiny fish and coral embellishments help bring movement into the composition. I wanted the amphora to feel partially buried beneath sand and sea growth, as if nature had slowly reclaimed it over hundreds of years.

The layered textures around the bottom create the impression of shells, reef structures, and ocean sediment collecting over time.

Even the worn edges of the MDF shape contribute to the illusion of an ancient artifact.

 

 Why I Love Mixed Media Art

Projects like this remind me why I love mixed media so much:
you can begin with one idea and end somewhere completely unexpected.

That creative transformation is the true magic of mixed media art.

Mixed Media Inspiration MDF Moon - Mohnblüten

  

I love to work on MDF bases in mixed media style with multiple wet layers, pigmentsand and crackle effects. MDF provides a far more stable and durable foundation compared to chipboard materials.

One of my favourites is the Moon. So far, I’ve mostly used this design as a fantasy-inspired backdrop for Halloween projects,

but it works for so many more ideas. Here, I used it as a background for a poppy field, which is blooming so beautifully here right now.

This simple laser-cut MDF moon became the perfect canvas for a creative journey where nature meets a touch of steampunk.

 

 

 

Combined with layered chipboards, rusty effects and gears, the design celebrates my love for blending organic beauty with industrial details. 

Warm colors and delicate details were added to bring the piece to life. The combination of natural chippies like the poppies and texture creates a unique home decor piece. 

 There is something magical about the contrast between delicate poppies, rust and mechanical elements.

An eyecatcher of the piece is a  poppy flower made from air-drying clay. It adds a beautiful focal point and creates a striking contrast to the flatter chipboard embellishments used throughout the design. 

The poppy heads were embossed using an embossing folder .

Ocean Waves in 3D Mixed Media Art

 

 For this project, I created a textured ocean wave artwork with a strong 3D effect using an MDF base and chipboards. The main idea was to make the waves flow out of the frame, creating movement and depth.

The chipboards helped build dimension, while texture paste and acrylic paints added the dynamic feeling of crashing ocean waves. 

This piece combines mixed media techniques, coastal inspiration, and layered textures to transform a simple frame into a dynamic ocean scene.

 

  

 

  

Materials Used

For the foundation, I worked with an MDF base, which provided the stability needed for heavy texture and layered elements.

To build dimension and structure, I used a stencil and added chipboards throughout the composition. These layers helped shape the movement of the waves.

This unique mixed media project was created using an MDF base and decorative chippies, 

combined with soft textures and floral details for a charming farmhouse look.

A special highlight of this piece is the small rustic fence element, 

created from weathered chipboard panels and arranged to look like an old vintage garden fence. 

Layers of distressed paint, weathered metal effects, and dimensional embellishments

 create a beautiful shabby chic design.

MDF Base Mixed Media Inspiration - Rustic Lantern

 I've rediscovered my love for mixed media, so you'll find a new idea here every week 😀

 

This mixed media lantern project combines industrial steampunk elements with a warm rustic finish. The base was created using an MDF lantern shape, decorated with layered chipboards, textured details, and dimensional embellishments to achieve a vintage handmade look.

The surface was covered with structure paste to add depth and an aged effect. Afterwards, the entire piece was painted with Terra acrylic paint, giving it a natural earthy tone. To highlight the beautiful textures and chipboard details, metallic wax was gently applied on top, creating subtle vintage shimmer and enhancing the gears.
