MDF Base Mixed Media Inspiration - Rustic Lantern

 Hello creative friends!

I've rediscovered my love for mixed media, so you'll find a new idea here every week 😀

This mixed media lantern project combines industrial steampunk elements with a warm rustic finish. The base was created using an MDF lantern shape, decorated with layered chipboards, textured details, and dimensional embellishments to achieve a vintage handmade look.

The surface was covered with structure paste to add depth and an aged effect. Afterwards, the entire piece was painted with Terra acrylic paint, giving it a natural earthy tone. To highlight the beautiful textures and chipboard details, metallic wax was gently applied on top, creating subtle vintage shimmer and enhancing the gears.

The combination of rough textures, rusty metallic accents, and delicate decorative pieces makes this project a perfect home décor item for lovers of mixed media, steampunk, and rustic art styles.

Steampunk Art Journal Adventures

This steampunk-inspired art journal page was created using stencils

to add texture and structure to the background.

Chipboards and die-cuts bring dimension, while washi tape and paper scraps create layered details.

Wise quotes were added to complete the page, combining creative design with meaningful words.

Es geht darum, Texturen, Papiere und Emotionen auf einer Seite zu schichten.

Scrapbooking with children - Buddelalarm - Dirt is our super power

There’s something magical about watching children discover the garden for the first time—not just as a place full of plants, but as a playground of textures, colors, and tiny living wonders.

DIY with chipboards

Use candid photos of muddy hands, little watering cans, and happy faces. I added playful elements like flower chipboards, garden tools, cogs, water droplets and combine it with scraps of paper. Primary colors are blue and brown all done in that used vintage style .

For extra texture, design chipboard elements with artificial rust effects. Use brown, black, orange, and a hint of metallic paint or embossing powder to create a weathered look—perfect for cogs or tools.
