There is something truly magical about transforming an ordinary book into a piece of art. My latest Altered Book project is inspired by the timeless story of Alice in Wonderland and combines mixed media techniques, vintage elements, nature-inspired textures and whimsical storytelling.

This altered book was designed as a three-dimensional scene filled with intricate details, layered paper elements, chipboards, textile moss and vintage-inspired decorations.
Every layer reveals a new part of the story, inviting viewers to explore the mysterious and enchanting world inspired by Lewis Carroll's beloved classic.
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was combining different materials and techniques:

Creative Chipboard Techniques and Ideas
One of the most distinctive features of this altered book is the creative use of chipboards. Rather than serving as simple embellishments, they became important storytelling elements within the project.
The clock-face chipboard was divided into sections and positioned as a bridge across the center of the book. This symbolic design represents the passage from the ordinary world into Alice's magical Wonderland.
Several mixed media techniques were used to transform the chipboards:
- Acrylic paints for custom color effects
- Layered textures and dimensional surfaces
- Dry embossing on the Alice chipboard with clocks (Tim Holtz embossing folder)
- Deco Sand for a weathered and aged appearance
These techniques demonstrate how versatile chipboards can be in mixed media art. Instead of acting only as decorative accents, they can become key focal points that help tell the story of a project.
