You're not just making decorations—you're creating a little world with a story.
A spooky yet magical DIY Halloween Tag created with Tim Holtz stamps, cutting dies and MDF shapes. Skull and sign were stamped on vintage papers decorated with crackle effects and magic eyes, textures, potion bottles and witchy details. A little touch of Halloween magic turns this handmade tag into a miniature witch’s apothecary full of mysterious details.
#89 Kerstin Filou ~ Emma says: I just love everything about this Halloween project, it’s amazing. The colours are beautiful, the stamped imagery and all the details are fantastic. Well done Kerstin and thanks for sharing…

There is something truly magical about transforming an ordinary book into a piece of art. My latest Altered Book project is inspired by the timeless story of Alice in Wonderland and combines mixed media techniques, vintage elements, nature-inspired textures and whimsical storytelling.
This altered book was designed as a three-dimensional scene filled with intricate details, layered paper elements, chipboards, textile moss and vintage-inspired decorations.
Every layer reveals a new part of the story, inviting viewers to explore the mysterious and enchanting world inspired by Lewis Carroll's beloved classic.
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was combining different materials and techniques:
The combination creates a unique Wonderland atmosphere with a touch of fantasy and steampunk charm.
Altered books allow artists to transform forgotten books into one-of-a-kind art pieces. The layered structure creates depth, storytelling opportunities, and endless creative possibilities.
Each detail contributes to the overall narrative, making every altered book completely unique.
If you are interested in creating your own Alice in Wonderland inspired altered book, consider these ideas:
✔ Use vintage or second-hand books
✔ Build multiple layers for depth
✔ Combine paper crafting with mixed media techniques
✔ Incorporate natural elements and textures
✔ Choose a strong storytelling theme
Alice in Wonderland offers endless inspiration thanks to its iconic characters, curious adventures, and whimsical atmosphere.
One of the most distinctive features of this altered book is the creative use of chipboards. Rather than serving as simple embellishments, they became important storytelling elements within the project.
The clock-face chipboard was divided into sections and positioned as a bridge across the center of the book. This symbolic design represents the passage from the ordinary world into Alice's magical Wonderland.
Several mixed media techniques were used to transform the chipboards:
These techniques demonstrate how versatile chipboards can be in mixed media art. Instead of acting only as decorative accents, they can become key focal points that help tell the story of a project.
Don't be afraid to experiment with chipboards by cutting, layering, embossing, painting, and combining different mediums.

#37: Witches Kitchen – Kerstin Filou: Andrea says, This is an absolutely stunning piece that’s filled with so much texture and visual interest! It incorporates multiple elements beautifully and I love the unconventional way the house dies were included at the top and the spiderweb was wrapped around the roofline. Gorgeous work!

This scrapbook theme captures the simple joy of kids exploring the garden. The highlight, of course, is always playing with the garden hose—it usually ends in a water fight.
I designed the theme with a worn, vintage look and a touch of steampunk, as you often see in my work. I love these beautiful sunflowers from DA, Focus on bright, natural colors like green and yellow.
In the end, this scrapbook layout isn’t just about gardening—it’s about curiosity, creativity, and connection. It’s about those carefree moments when time slows down, and a simple splash of water can turn into pure happiness.
So grab your supplies, print your favorite photos, and let your creativity grow. Because just like a garden, your memories deserve to be nurtured, captured, and cherished.
Sometimes the best creations start with a mistake…
Manchmal muss man ihn einfach in Magie verwandeln.
Mögen eure Häuser schief, eure Fenster geheimnisvoll
und eure kreativen Fehler wunderbar magisch sein.
🎃 Happy Halloween Crafting!
If you love creating textured mixed media projects, this one is full of inspiration!
I transformed an oval wall décor piece into a weathered pirate-themed artwork using chipboards, rich rust effects, and a subtle touch of steampunk.
By layering texture pastes, metallic paints, and rusty patinas, I created an aged, dark vintage look. The dimensional chipboard embellishments add depth and tell their own story, while the combination of industrial details and nautical elements gives the project a unique character.
Mixed media is all about experimenting, combining different materials, and letting creativity lead the way. Don't be afraid to embrace texture, imperfections, and rusty finishes—they often create the most beautiful effects.
